Musical director, arranger and trombonist James Brown's band between 1968 and 1975, Fred Wesley deserves the title of architect of funk more than anyone. His work, together with that of Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis, marked an era, and even today are sampled by nearly every other artist in the world of electronic music and hip-hop. He also played with Funkadelic, Parliament, the Count Basie Orchestra, and even with Ike & Tina Turner. He's currently still making sparks with a combo.
