46th Voll-Damm Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona: Rudresh Mahanthappa, Gamak

Alto saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa returns to the festival with his singular sound to present his new project, Gamak, which has him synthesizing musical forms and concepts of Western and Eastern cultures. 'Gamak incorporates jazz, progressive rock, heavy metal, country, American folk, go-go and ambient music,' explains Mahanthapp, 'and simultaneously explores the rich musical traditions of India, China, Africa and Indonesia.' The result of such an ambitious combination, Mahanthappa continues, is 'music that defies categorization, music that really suits the times we live in'.
