You've not been magically transported to Polynesia, you're at the beach in Gavà, but chef Òscar Manresa has transformed this spot among the sand dunes into a 'xiringuito' (beach bar) with style, where you can imagine spending your holidays, stretched out on a lounge chair in front of the Mediterranean Sea, while you watch the world go by. And bonus: you can eat really well here too. Everything is served tapas-style, some with ingredients from Kauai's own garden, and you won't find greasy mounds of fried snacks like you might among some of the worst coastline snack bars. Fill up on fresh oysters, calamari, freshly fried fish, squid with meatballs, burgers, grilled meats, and the usual good mood of Manresa, who hails from Torre de Alta Mar and El Magatzem in Barceloneta.
This splendid xiringuito is also very clear about the maxim that anyone who prepares sardines should have tattooed in their mind: 'Sardines are only good in months without an "r".' Their popular skewers, charcoal-grilled on a bamboo skewer and cooked with just a hint of salt, are a classic option in the summer months. And they are just one of the many charms of a pleasant and cheerful space, with a large terrace overlooking the sea and a menu full of classic tapas made with good, seasonal products.
