Isaac (Allen) is a neurotic middle-aged man with a job he hates, a girlfriend (Mariel Hemingway) he's not in love with, and an ex-wife (Meryl Streep) who's a lesbian and who he wants to strangle because she's writing a tell-all book about their marriage. When he meets Mary (Diane Keaton), the lover of his best friend, he falls for her. He dreams of a new life, quitting his job, leaving his girlfriend and climbing into bed with Mary.
