Paolo Sorrentino. Italy, France, 2013. VOSE. 142'.
Using the memorable character of the seductive Jep Gambardella, a long-established journalist, actor Toni Servillo guides us through a frivolous and decadant Rome populated by a wide range of high society characters with shallow, empty lives. Sorrentino makes explicit references to the oeuvre of Fellini, in particular 'La dolce vita', but gives the film a post-modern aesthetic loaded with a powerfully emotional and critical story. 'La grande bellezza' ('The Great Beauty') was the winner, amongst other prizes, of an Oscar, Golden Globe and the title of Best European Film of the Year.
