A group of US Marines Corps recruits (Matthew Modine, Vince D'Onofrio, Dorian Harewood) go through training before heading to Vietnam. Sergeant Hartmann (R. Lee Ermey) is harsh and unforgiving with the sole mission in life of hardening the recruits' bodies and souls in preparation of defending themselves against the enemy.
