After attending a small performance in Istanbul with men doing a folk dance, Christian Rizzo was deeply moved. He wondered whether it was the dance or the emptiness the dancers left once they were gone that had affected him. 'That feeling stayed with me ever since,' he says. In 'D'après une histoire vraie', the choreographer recalls the emotion he felt and brings that to the stage with eight dancers and two drummers, imagining a dance that comes from their (specifically male and Mediterranean) folk roots to seek a collective dance without signs of identity, without belonging to a territory or to any particular group. The music of the two drummers moves between tribal rhythms and sounds of psychedelic rock.
