I'm starting to think that Lito Baldovinos and Enric Rebordosa have made a pact with evil forces, the likes of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards: all the businesses they launch are a lesson in elegance, sense of humour and quality. Everything is done well. El Maravillas is the umpteenth triumph of this pair who have done their bit to make Barcelona drunk with places of worship like El Paradiso and Dr. Stravinsky.
And I'm here to tell you that El Maravillas is by far the best bar in the Les Corts neighbourhood. With an idyllic terrace in Plaça de la Concordia, El Maravillas boasts a magnificent wine list, but I prefer the cocktails. At the bar, Míriam Campa works wonders; in fact, she makes a G&T the same way she did at her old stomping grounds, Tirsa, a treat for anyone who remembers them, but be warned you'll shed a tear when you try it. Campa has a gift, and her cocktails are extraordinary – what a Bloody Mary! Also divine are the dishes that come out of the kitchen, such as the beef cheek, tuna tartare, meatballs with pork jowls and cuttlefish...
Satisfied, well fed and more than a bit tipsy, I go to the toilet and come across a shrine dedicated to Romário, with vintage photos of the Brazilian striker in action. I smile and surrender. You have won, you bastards: this bar is ace.
