Time Out says

It’s the oldest surviving garden in the city. Its labyrinth challenges your sense of direction and can be a fun and exciting play space, especially popular with kids.

Nature, History, and Fun in One of Barcelona’s Most Unique Gardens

The Labyrinth Park of Horta is one of the most enchanting natural spaces in Barcelona. While its maze may be the main attraction—especially for kids—it’s just a small part of this 9-hectare park filled with greenery, history, and art. What makes it especially fascinating is that its gardens represent two distinct artistic periods.

A Bit of History, A Bit of Art (and Great for Kids!)

The park is located on what used to be the Desvalls family estate, nestled at the foot of the Collserola hills. As you explore, you’ll discover an 18th-century neoclassical garden and a 19th-century romantic garden. The park’s museum-like design reflects a unique blend: the neoclassical section is all about symmetry, balance, and harmony, while the romantic section adds a touch of mystery with wild-looking vegetation and even a symbolic (fake) cemetery.

Of course, the star for many visitors, especially younger ones, is the maze, where kids and adults alike can test their sense of direction in a classic garden game.

Art, Mythology & Natural Beauty

As you walk through the park, you’ll come across various sculptures inspired by Greek mythology, as well as the Desvalls family palace, elegant fountains, and even a waterfall. Right outside the main entrance, there’s a children’s play area, along with a picnic zone surrounded by open green space.

The park also boasts impressive biodiversity, featuring trees such as lime trees, yews, oaks, cedars, and even a sequoia. Some of these trees are considered of special local interest.

With all this in one place, it’s no wonder Labyrinth Park ranks high among the top green spaces to visit in Barcelona.

How to Get There

The Barcelona City Council website offers a trip planner that shows the best ways to reach the park—whether on foot, by bike, public transport, scooter, or car (though parking nearby can be tricky). You can also check the TMB website for up-to-date bus and metro options from your location. The park is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Opening Hours, Entry Fees & Free Access Days

Getting “lost” in Horta’s maze is a great way to spend a Sunday, especially since entry is free on Sundays! The same goes for Wednesdays, which are also free-entry days. Otherwise, tickets are very affordable, with reduced prices for many groups (including people with disabilities). Children under 5, local residents, and seniors can enter for free year-round.

  • Opening hours:
    • Summer: 10 AM – 8 PM
    • Winter: 10 AM – 6 PM

Please note: Pets are not allowed in the park at the moment.
