The walls and towers of Castell de Castellet stand tall and imposingly over the Foix River, guarding the little village of Castellet as it always has. In fact, there is evidence that some fortification has stood there in some form for over 2,500 years. While most of the current structure is medieval, it was first built to protect trade routes during Iberian times. The central tower is the most impressive part of this Castle and also one of the oldest pieces. It juts out of the middle of the structure high above the walls and other towers looking over the river and surrounding village. The castle also has several dwellings that were occupied by noble families during gothic times. This is one of the most beautiful and impressive castles in Catalonia and it is only an hour south of Barcelona. Free guided tours are offered by the Abertis foundation on the second weekend of every month. We recommend making a reservation before going.
