The Fundación Foto Colectania presents, for the first time in Europe, this exhibition by photographer Pieter Hugo, a bittersweet perspective on his native country, South Africa. The series is a reflexion on the idea of home and an attempt to evaluate the distance that separates a society's ideals and its more immediate reality. The images in the series, shot over eight years, employ different genres – still life, portraits, rural and urban landscapes – to create a collective, and very personal, portrait of Hugo's troubled homeland, which remains racked by racial and economic tensions some 20 years after the end of apartheid. These are the recurring themes that the artist has explored in previous projects in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Botswana, as is the case with his celebrated series 'Nollywood' and 'The Hyena and Other Men'.
