An exhibition of work by painter Odd Nerdrum, a prolific Norwegian artists and key exponent of classic figurative painting, and by a number of his disciples. Nerdrum has shown his work with that of his students on a number of occasions, but this is the first time that such an extensive and wide-ranging exhibition has been mounted, both in terms of the magnitude of the works presented by the Norwegian artist and the number of students accompanying him. This exhibition at the MEAM is a clear example of the splendour of the creations from the Scandinavian painter and the richness of those of his followers – it includes 38 works by Nerdrum and around 30 by some of his most accomplished students. With a deep respect for tradition, humanity and history, Nerdrum's work transports the spectator to a dimension where it's possible to think, reflect and enjoy a sublime technique. In his paintings, he shows us faces and human figures, spectacular skies, and landscapes that are devastating but full of dreams and hope.
