Things to do to deal with stress and anger

If things turn out horribly, here are some of the things in Bangkok to help you cope with PESD.

The whole of Thailand has been on a roller coaster ride the last few years, bearing witness to the dips and peaks of the political ballet—poached candidates, public protests, rescinded nominations, party dissolutions, etcetera.

So we’re not surprised if you’re suffering from the political stress disorder. To help you cope with the trauma, we’ve rounded up oddly satisfying things to do to unleash your rage and frustration.

And for those of you who don't like the violence, check out these non-destructive cool new ways to de-stress in Bangkok.

If you’re one of those people who like to break things in tense situations, then come to Aesop’s. Apart from serving authentic, well-crafted Greek fare and liquor, the eatery also gives its guests the opportunity to indulge in a good ol’ Greek ritual: plate-smashing. Just smile and shout “Opa” when you throw those plates to the ground, and people won’t know your hidden (crazy) intention.

Aesop's Greek Restaurant, 120 Soi Sala Daeng 1/1, Khwaeng Silom, 062 567 7751. Open Mon-Sat 17:00-24:00, Sun 12:00-23:00

Instead of jumping into conclusions with regards to the election results, jump on the trampoline at Bounce instead. This pressure-free workout helps you loosen up, zone out and reconnect with your inner kid. There are other stress-relieving activities for you to try, such as the Big Bag, Slam Dunk, and The Wall. There’s even a zone for junior jumpers!

BOUNCE Thailand, 4/F, EmQuartier, Sukhumvit Road, Klong Tan Nuea, 02 014 2446. Open daily 10:00-22:00

Are you one to throw stuff when things don’t go your way? If the answer is yes, then axe-throwing is the way to go. At Golden Axe Throw Club, you get the chance to heave an unlimited number of axes (B500/person/hour) at a wooden
target. Get together a group of friends who were also dismayed by the voting results, and rent the private lane, which can hold up to seven-plus players. The venue also provides protective gear and a well-trained instructor, so you can practice safety and ferocity at the same time.

Golden Axe Throw Club: Soi Lat Phrao Wang Hin 71, Lat Phrao, 063 654 0600. Open Wed-Thur 16:00-23:00, Fri-Sun 11:00-23:00

They have just opened a new location at Art Box, Soi Sukhumvit 10. BTS Nana.

Laser tag

Blow off steam by shooting at a moving target, but without hurting anyone. The laser tag centers in the city do a really good job of imitating the battlefield, with its maze-like setting, hiding spots and shoot-to-tag requirement. Pick up the (laser) gun and release your inner rage, but remember to leave all the anger on the field.

Lazgam, 22 Sukhumvit Road, Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana, 064 878 5703. Open Mon - Thur 14:00-23:00, Fri 14:00-24:00, Sat 10:00-24:00, Sun 10:00-23:00

Siam Laser Games, Novotel Bangkok Siam Square, Soi Siam Square 6, 087 635 8989. Open Mon-Thur 10:00-23:00, Fri 10:00-24:00, Sat 11:00-24:00, Sun 11:00-23:00

Boxing

If you feel like punching someone in the face, the boxing gym is where you need to be. Hitting a bag is a safer way to release tension and aggression without hurting yourself and others. It will also allow you to focus on the present and switch off the outside world for a while. In addition, a high-intensity workout like boxing releases endorphins into your body, naturally enhancing your mood. Now put your gloves on and punch away till your arms and legs give out.

RSM Muay Thai Academy, 2/F Jasmine City, 23 Sukhumvit Road, Khlong Tan Nuea, 02 661 6292. Open daily 09:00-21:00

Elite Fight Club, Water Diamond Tower, Soi Sukhumvit 30/1,
Khlong Tan, 02 661 3546. Open Sat-Sun 07:00-21:00, Mon-Fri 07:00-22:00

Paintball

If laser tag did not quiet your inner demons, maybe paintball will. Particularly recommended for fans of The Purge film franchise, the paintball field is good practice for when things get messier than they already are, and we are granted one lawless night for catharsis.

Combat Zone, Srinakarin, Nong Bon, 080 956 1999. Open Mon-Fri 13:00-19:00 (Closed on Tue), Sat-Sun 10:00-20:00
