Bangkok may be a city of skyscrapers, bridges and mega-structures dedicated to retail, but this concrete jungle also has its fair share of amazing outdoor opportunities.

Now that pandemic restrictions are slowly being lifted, people are starting to look into activities that allow them to get back in touch with nature and the outdoors. Some are choosing to fulfil their longing for adventure through activities such as camping and kayaking, while others just want to immerse themselves in greenery.

And you don’t even have to go too far to do all these. A short drive to the outskirts of the city can already take you to the welcoming bosom of Mother Nature. (No need to take a leave from work!)

Here are four awesome spots for outdoor pursuits in Bangkok.

Nong Bon Water Sports Center

You can do it all at Bangkok’s number one venue for outdoor activities, from sailing, to kayaking, to wind-surfing. Beginners can also take workshops and lessons at the sports center.

One thing to keep in mind: Nong Bon Center requires a membership to use the facilities, but it’s not expensive at all! Fees start at B20 per year.

Fee: Annual memberships priced between B20 to B60 for Thais, depending on the age of the applicant, and from B300 for foreigners.

Sansiri Backyard

This large organic farm in the heart of the city is popular among health freaks and adventure enthusiasts. The almost six-acre (15-rai) space hosts plenty of activities such as domestic farm animal feeding and organic produce cultivation. The highlight is a riceberry rice field that’s beloved by social media die-hards. It may sound like a faraway land but it’s actually only three kilometers from BTS Phra Khanong.

Fee: Free entry

Address: T77 Community, 91 Soi Rim Khlong Phra Khanong, Phra Khanong Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110

Metro Forest

This is another unexpected surprise just outside the Bangkok city proper. A forestry learning center by PTT Public Company Limited, it takes up approximately five acres (12 rai) and was created to help cultivate environmental awareness and educate visitors about native plant species. It features a wooden bridge, a skywalk, a floating garden, a bird-watching observatory and an ecology systems museum.

Fee: Free entry (booking required for group visits)
