“A delightful yet simple Hong Kong-style meal” is promised at Yang Hong Kong Café, a newly opened restaurant set up by entrepreneurial sisters Pintongta “Aim” Shinawatra Kunakornwong and Peathongtarn Shinawatra.
“This is a good opportunity for us to offer quick, modern and tasty meals with a touch of flair,” they say. Most of the dishes take inspiration from authentic Cantonese cuisine, following recipes of East Ocean, a popular Oriental-style restaurant at SC Park Hotel.
The restaurant is particularly proud of its assorted dim sum menu. The har gow (steamed shrimp dumplings, B65) is most deserving of praise, filled with both big and small shrimps of a crunchy yet bouncy texture. Yang also serves BBQ pork buns (B30 per piece), which it has claimed as its signature, and fun guo (B35 per piece), a deep-fried version of har gow.
This Hong Kong café also offers several rice meals, such as Szechuan chicken with rice (B150) or salt and chili crispy pork belly on rice (B150). Rice congee, ubiquitous in Cantonese cooking, is served with either sea bass (B140) or pork (B125). The texture of the congee is wonderfully smooth and soft, just like those served in Hong Kong.
Follow up your meal with one of their light and refreshing desserts, such as lemongrass jelly with aloe vera (B50).
Milk tea enthusiasts won’t be disappointed, either. Yang stays true to form and serves it with a bitter taste, which is characteristic of authentic Hong Kong milk tea.
Yang Hong Kong Café is located on the second floor of Rama 9 Hospital (Tower B) and opens daily from 06:00 to 20:00.
