You might not associate the kingdom’s thronging capital with the laid-back charms of the seashore, but that doesn’t mean you can’t revel in a chic beach club vibe in the heart of the city. In fact, thanks to the River Club, you don’t have to venture far at all to unwind with a tropical drink in a serene seaside setting that feels like it is worlds away from the surrounding metropolitan hustle.
Brought to life by the Watermelon Group, the creators of Rabbit Hole, Crimson Room and Canva, this newly opened retreat on the Chao Phraya River boasts a sophisticated resort-like feel. With Bali-inspired architecture and a pool, it offers a charming spot in which to relax, kick back and take in fantastic river views at leisure.
When it comes to great eats, the menu keeps taste buds dancing with a fusion of Isaan and Mexican cuisine by Spanish chef Pepe Jiménez, formerly of Jim Thompson and Vilas. From naem moo tortilla de patata and tom saab with grilled pork neck to Isaan guacamole with totopos, there’s something to please all palates and cross-culinary and cultural stories behind the heady mix of ingredients in every dish.
The beach club vibe kicks up a gear with signature cocktails that bring a touch of the islands to the river. Try the Jar of Joy, which mixes El Jimador tequila with salted honey syrup, Sriracha chilli sauce, pineapple juice and lime, or the Cactus Rocket & Friend featuring Jose Cuervo Especial silver tequila, Cointreau, Campari, cactus flower puree, sugar and lime.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. A lineup of talented DJs boosts the breezy atmosphere with Afro House, House and suave Latin beats. Plus, there are regular social events such as chilled weekend BBQs and Sunday Boozy Brunches to keep the good times flowing.
