Tucked away from the bustle of Thonglor’s main stretch and set in a cute, little house, this new restaurant serves Italian-focused cuisine that’s influenced by Thai flavors.
The majestic, mustard-colored house that used to be Amalfi Bistro—once a go-to spot for old-school Italian classics—has been given a new lease on life and transformed into Nuvola Caffè Milanese. Step in and you’ll find every corner in the three-story house perfectly designed for Instagram—walls are refreshingly painted in different tones that merge with wallpaper featuring Michelangelo’s masterpieces. There’s a swimming pool in the backyard where private events can be held upon request.
Food-wise, think Italian meets Audrey or Greyhound. The menu spans classics like pasta, pizza and risotto, as well as hearty steaks and comforting desserts. Flavors are a bit spicier and are localized to appeal to the Thai palate. The angel hair pasta (B320) is given a piquant kick with chili and garlic, and is heartily speckled with chunks of crab meat, while the risotto al mare blu (B320) brings the whole ocean onto a plate with all kinds of seafood in a tomato-heavy sauce. Big groups can share the Australian prime rib tomahawk (B3,990), which is grilled on a lava stone and served with a cheese-topped potato.
The restaurant offers Italian staples like tiramisu and gelato for dessert, as well as deconstructed takes on classics. Nuvola’s take on the classic lemon tart (B130), for one, is a Napoleon cake filled with sweet cream and served with lemon curd sauce. But here’s our advice, stick to the classic.
