A white-washed mansion in Asoke has caught the attention of gourmands and Instagrammers, not just for its photographic facede and interiors, but for what it offers: the belly-filling, heartwarming flavors of the Mediterranean and the Southern Italian coast.
It’s hard to believe the restaurant was once a traditional Japanese restaurant. Wood paneling and Oriental details have made way for colorful Italian tiles, rounded archways and mosaic murals depicting Italian coastal towns.
Former Il Fumo chef Walter D’Ambrosio is in charge of the kitchen, which strives to gratify seafood lovers with delightful dishes that maximize the bounty of the ocean. There’s naturally sweet Mazara del Vallo red prawn (B690) served with a serving of creamy burrata; and a plate heaped with grilled seabass, grouper, red snapper, prawns and cuttlefish (B1,080). Not to miss is the seafood fregola pasta (B480), laden with a zesty tomato sauce mixed with white wine.
Naturally, there's pizza and it doesn’t disappoint. A few options come with seafood, but our vote goes to the Prosciutto option (540), which comes with 24 month-aged Parma ham, cherry tomatoes, rocket and parmesan cheese.
Because of its consistently delicious food and delightful interiors, not to mention its fuss-free vibe, Mediterra may just be Asoke’s new favorite Italian haunt.
