Open since 1955, when the owner decided to turn a traditional retail shop into a Chinese-style khao tom (rice porridge) eatery, Khao Tom Thewet Chiao Chan Pha Nit has been serving hearty porridge (B10/ bowl) with side dishes like stirfried morning glory with chili and garlic (B70), yum pla salid (spicy Thai-style snake skin gourami salad, B130), and stir-fried clams with nam prik pao (Thai chili paste, B130). Shelves display limitededition bottles of vintage Thai liquor (Sang Som, Kwang Thong, Mekhong), which the shop’s owners have been collecting for years and passing on to the next generation. They are, however, for sale, with prices starting from B3,000.
