Another day, another burger joint. Three foodie friends have joined hands to launch a gourmet burger venue that features an extraordinary star ingredient: a delicious brioche bun.
Chunky urban interiors—we’re talking blond-wood furniture, faux white brick walls and potted plants—offers laidback dining. A welcoming pantry, where coffee drinks and the signature brioche buns are made, stands in one corner (the space also offers free brioche-baking lessons on demand). The second floor is reserved for private parties; call in advance to ask the chef to cook something special.
The menu offers an interesting variety of creative gourmet burgers such as Benedict Burger (poached eggs, Canadian ham and Hollandaise sauce, B300) and Holy Cheese burger, a croque-madame-inspired version that features ham, fried eggs, mustard and loads of cheese. The sliced beef burger (B345) comes with sliced sous-vide New Zealand sirloin, three-day simmered brown sauce, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions and another secret sauce. The accompanying fries are also well-executed—golden brown, crunchy and not too greasy.
Also worth a try is a pasta dish that features vermicelli in flavorful creamy bisque sauce served with battered prawn (B290). Don’t leave without having dessert. The Chunky Sweetie Burger tastes similar to After You’s infamous Honey Toast, but is probably even better with Chunky’s signature brioche bun, chocolate truffle and vanilla ice cream. ■
