Why stick to plain white sticky rice when you can liven up your dessert with colorful rice? At Cho Sornkaew on Chok Chai 4, have fun taking snaps of the bright yellow mango with multicolored sticky rice before chowing down the treat.
Apart from hot papaya salad, throat-warming tom yum, comforting pad thai and many dishes that we can’t possibly cover in one go, mango sticky rice is one of Thailand’s biggest culinary delights.
We cannot claim the dish as our own, however. Other Southeast Asian countries, such as Laos and the Philippines, have their own variations. But one element is constant: ripe and sweet mangoes with a bit of tartness to them. In Thailand, the mangoes—in season at the peak of summer—are paired with glutinous rice cooked with coconut milk and a sweetener like palm or cane sugar.
It’s easy to make this treat at home, but sometimes we prefer to get them from these well-known shops.
