A collaboration between three foodies, Bangkok Bold Cooking Studio has earned a solid culinary reputation for teaching cooking classes that involve age-old recipes and offering a chef’s table experiences that dishes out sophisticated Thai grub. But here’s the hitch: you need to show up in a group of up to eight for a set menu that sets you back around B1,400 (yes, per person).
One of the partners, Chortip “Nhoi” Ouypornchaisakul, decided to ease things up a bit and opened Bangkok Bold Kitchen, a spin-off eatery that serves drool-worthy à la carte goodies.
Set in Riverside Plaza, a shopping mall that shares the same building as Avani Riverside Hotel, Bangkok Bold Kitchen has the same rustic interiors that permeate its cooking studio counterpart. The main dining room is decked out with stone blue walls displaying woven old-school kitchenware. There’s a private room that functions as a cooking studio and a chef’s table space for a small group.
Expect a selection of dishes that deliver full-on flavor and allow the taste of high-quality ingredients to shine through. The soup of steamed snakehead fish and napa cabbage (B190) sees an interplay of soft and crispy textures that is further enhanced by a zesty lemongrass taste. The all-time favorite massaman curry (B250) is dealt a more sophisticated touch, featuring tender braised beef shank and sweet potato swimming in a broth that’s thickened by a signature homemade paste. For something different, try the angel hair pasta, which is given an innovative approach with beef shank and southern-style yellow curry (B270). Finish off the meal with a coconut cake (B150), which features layers of pandan chiffon cake, coconut cream and young coconut.
