The Thai cabinet, on Tuesday, Dec 8, reached an agreement to allow tourists from all countries to apply for a special long-stay tourist visa (STV). Previously, only foreigners from low-risk countries were eligible for the application.
This latest government-approved policy came after the underwhelming influx of tourists to Thailand following the launch of the STV back in October, and—according to Bangkok Post—there were only 825 travelers of 29 nationalities and six yachts entering Thailand ever since.
Deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Dhnadirek admitted that the STV had a certain number of limitations, which somehow discouraged tourists to visit the country.
Moreover, the cabinet also furthers the eligibility to those traveling by yachts for a 30-day period in order for them to extend their visas for longer stay.
All in all, the STV grantees also need to practice 14-day quarantine and declare clear documents on their planned accommodations.
