Remember that Time Out Index survey where we asked you to rate your life in Bangkok over the past year. The results are here and, guess what, we ranked 37 on a list of 37 cities. Yup, dead last. Overall, San Francisco got the best ranking making it the top city on this year’s list. Chicago, last year’s winner, has been dislodged from its lofty spot and didn’t even make it to the top 10.

Are things really that bad in Bangkok? Well, it is, according to you. Eighty-five percent of survey respondents think Bangkok is “polluted” and only one percent adore the city for its green spaces—a fair point, considering that we have only four sizable public parks in the city center. These two categories put Bangkok at the bottom. It was also interesting to learn that 21 percent of Bangkok respondents think their city is overrated, an opinion that made Bangkok the most overrated city in the world on this year’s list.

But not everything is dismal. Food is still big in Bangkok. The city’s eating and drinking scene scored the third-highest, with 96 percent of respondents giving it a four- to five-star rating. Also, more than half of Bangkokians gave their home city high points for dynamism.

Cities in the top 10 this year are:

  1. San Francisco
  2. Amsterdam
  3. Manchester
  4. Copenhagen
  5. New York
  6. Montreal
  7. Prague
  8. Tel Aviv
  9. Porto
  10. Tokyo
