Traditional afternoon tea is all about elegant porcelain sets and gorgeous-looking morsels, but does it always have to be like this? Not necessarily. It’s 2021 after all, and many tea rooms in the city no longer stick to classic British aesthetics to create an awe-striking afternoon tea set. The St. Regis Bangkok, for one, doesn’t hold anything back when it comes to the afternoon tradition.
The five-star establishment on Ratchadamri Road is making an attempt to reinvent Bangkok’s afternoon tea scene with the launch of a limited-time, science-inspired set called “The Nature Lab”. Available throughout October and November, this set does away with dainty tea cups and painted pots, and serves tea, potion-like drinks and tiny bites in laboratory equipment like tubes, beakers, syringes and glass bowls.
Apart from providing a tasty afternoon treat, not to mention lots of material for Instagram fun, The Nature Lab afternoon tea set also boasts health benefits from the heavy use of vegetables and fruits. To start, you’re served Tomato and Pomegranate Immunity Booster Shots, which are high in antioxidant content.
As for nibbles, you have some photogenic savory items such as Norwegian Smoked Salmon Roulade with Herbal Cream, Shrimp with Spicy Tom Yum Sauce, and Seared Duck Breast with Orange and Ginger Dressing, the latter highlighting the anti-inflammatory properties of the ginger root. The sweet options also boast health-promoting properties—the Acai Berry with Turmeric Pill touches on the medicinal powers of turmeric while the High Vit C, a pastry of orange curd, lemon chiffon, and lime gel, spotlights the vitamin’s immune-boosting capabilities. Both pastries are creatively fashioned to resemble either a capsule or a pill.
Go have fun with this lab-inspired afternoon tea set at The St. Regis Bar. Sets are priced at B1,600++ each (good for two), and are available between 14:00 and 17:00 until 30 November. Call 0 2207 7777 to make a reservation or email fb.bangkok@stregis.com.
