Hold on to your fork and spoon! The World’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2022 will soon be announced. But it’s been the tradition for the 50 Best peeps to announce which restaurants almost but not quite made it to the prestigious list ahead of the first 50.
Restaurants ranked 51 to 100 were revealed on July 5, and a total of four restaurants in Bangkok received the nod. Props to Samrub Samrub Thai and Jay Fai for making their debut on the roster at No. 75 and No. 85, respectively.
Meanwhile, Chef Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn’s Le Du moved up from No. 72 to No. 65, as it holds on tightly to the fourth spot on the list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants this year.
We were all shocked to learn, however, that German eatery Sühring came in at 66, a big drop from No. 40 on the top 50 last year—the only establishment in the Thai capital to have made the cut.
What’s left for us to see on 18 July, when the complete list is unveiled, is where Sorn and Gaa will be. Last year, these two restaurants were placed at No. 63 and No. 93, respectively. However, their disappearance from the 51 to 100 list could mean that they climbed up to the first half or the other way round. We expect to see Sorn skyrocket to a high rank after snatching the second spot on Asia’s 50 Best list earlier this year.
The complete list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants will be released on July 18 via a live broadcast here. In the meantime, you can check out 2021’s edition of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants on this link.
