The longest-standing jazz institution The Bamboo Bar at Mandarin Oriental was named the world’s 55thbest bar in the World’s 50 Best Bars list. The announcement makes The Bamboo Bar the first Thai watering hole to make the list.

Organized by the people behind World’s 50 Best Restaurants award, The World’s 50 Best Bars represents the globe’s most reputed cocktails institutions as voted by the judging panel consisting of more than 500 experts and bar-industry individuals from around the globe. The complete list of World’s 50 Best Bars 2018 will be announced on 3 October at The Roundhouse in London, while the list of 51-100th Best Bars – aka those who almost make it into the main list – was revealed as a prelude to the actual award ceremony.

Earlier named the 9thbest bar in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2018 list, The Bamboo Bar is spearheaded by Jamie Rhind who has recently introduced Thai local ingredients in the new Compass cocktail menu. Inspired by regional flavor-profile, Rhind looks to take the tipplers to a trip around Thailand with boozy numbers like Hang Lay — the rum-based refreshing drink that represents the kaeng hang lay — a northern specialty, and somtum-inspired Get The Mortar which makes use of Barralhouse 53 — The Bamboo Bar’s very own vodka.
