The Constitutional Court has dissolved political party, Thai Raksa Chart, due to its earlier move to nominate Princess Ubolratana as the party’s candidate for prime minister. According to the Thai constitution, the Royal Family is placed above politics and shouldn’t by all means get involved in the scene. Princess Ubolratana may have legally given up her royal titles decades ago to marry a foreigner, but she still holds a de facto royal status in the eyes of locals, and Thai Raksa Chart’s nomination may negatively impact this perception.
The party’s executives have been barred from engaging in any political activity for ten years.
