Sad news for fans of fried chicken as Texas Chicken flies the coop after nine years of bringing joy to fried chicken lovers in Thailand.

On Sep 16, Texas Chicken Thailand announced on its Facebook page that all branches will operate until Sep 30, 2024. The post did not explain the brand's decision to leave the country.

Texas Chicken, also known as Church's Texas Chicken in the United States, was born in Texas in 1952. Over time, the brand has spread to 26 countries including Thailand. It first arrived here in 2015 thanks to the company behind Café Amazon, PTT Oil and Retail Business Plc (OR).

What makes Texas Chicken stand out is its dish of a large piece of crispy chicken served with honey butter biscuits. Although the price of the combo is relatively similar to other chains, Texas Chicken’s butter biscuits add that much more than just chips, soda and chicken.

There are now 97 branches across Thailand. This is your last chance to taste the American southern-style fried chicken before it closes at the end of September this year.

Thais are no strangers to fried chicken. We have several versions such as kai tod Hat Yai, fried chicken with lots of crispy fried shallots. Another chain restaurant like KFC may be more popular with locals than Texas Chicken, but for the latter’s fans, once you have tried the chicken with honey butter biscuits, you won’t want to try anything else.
