Bangkok has welcomed a new bridge over the Chao Phraya River. The crossing, nicknamed the second Rama IX bridge as it runs parallel to the existing Rama IX connection, is part of Bangkok’s expressway system and was built to ease congested traffic between inner Bangkok and the outskirts of Rama II, the southern gateway that has rapidly gentrified in the last few years.

The 41-meter-tall bridge features eight lanes and, like its sibling, adopts a cable-stayed construction and is painted in bright yellow.
What's exciting is that the newly completed bridge will be open to pedestrians first before it opens to cars. The public is welcome to walk on the bridge from now until Feb 18 and from Feb 23 to 25, between 16:00 to 22:00. Up there, you’ll see spanning views of both sides of Bangkok and the city’s most majestic waterway.
