Bangkok Design Week 2024 wrapped up its buzz last week, with more shows beyond the central area sparking wider conversations on the 2024 theme: Liveable Scape. Kaset-Bangbua stands out as a significant quarter in the northern part of the city, with the showground at SC Asset’s COBE sales gallery being one of the main highlights.
SC Asset, a leading property developer with an aim to create a liveable space that promotes the relationship between residents and the community they live in, opens up its space at the upcoming COBE Kaset-Bangbua project for local creative minds, from architects and students, to showcase their vision for the future of the community, and of Bangkok.
The focal point of this spot is the 'Bamboo Mache Modular,' an experimental bamboo structure designed by architect Thanapat Boonsanan, founder of Thor Kaichon. This innovative bamboo structure presents new possibilities for sustainable materials, allowing for modular units that can be taken apart and reassembled in unlimited dimensions for versatile use and various sizes. The designer also adopted the technique of paper mache to reinforce bamboo sheets, ensuring the structure's strength and stability for multiple uses. Festivalgoers even climbed onto them, using them as seating platforms to watch outdoor film screenings and engage in conversations with like-minded peers.
Bangkok Design Week’s Kasat-Bangbua area also featured performances from various artists, projection mapping shows, outdoor movie screenings, a YoUTH{TAK} food truck market offering local delicacies, and the 'Lively Street Furniture' exhibition. The primary goal was to create the Third Place filled with a variety of interests for young minds to casually connect within the fast-growing community. The collaborative bond between city development and the community is crucial to creating the “Liveable Scape,” the core of the 2024 Bangkok Design Week.
The success witnessed by thousands of young creatives and art talents exploring the showcases and activities is a testament to SC Asset’s initiative to establish a new liveable community. This vision takes shape in the form of the new developing community COBE Condominium (it’s 0 meters from BTS Bangbua!), aiming to provide new and sustainable ways for residents to live happily and functionally in this soon-to-be creative city.
