Every year, Time Out editors around the globe get together to name the coolest neighborhood in each city, and 2020's result is here.

This year, Bangkok's most hip-and-hit area Samyan-Chula takes the crown of the coolest neighborhood, taking 2019's pick Soi Pridi Banomyong/Phra Khanong down the throne.

Samyan-Chula is the neighborhood around Chulalongkorn University, one of the most prestigious universities in the city, which helps it become an instant hit among locals and travelers alike, thanks to the university's property agency's plan to spruce up the area in which ancient grocers, food stalls, and ramshackle auto-part stores used to occupy.

Now that old and cheap eateries and stores are mostly relocated to other surrounding areas such as Ban Tad Tong, Samyan-Chula has seen the emergence of modern undertakings with the likes of mega-complex Samyan Mitrtown—home to a 24/7 book store, an indie film cinema, and a public rooftop garden—and also a horde of new restaurants, cafés, and art galleries. All of these, accordingly, put this neighborhood onto the top of Bangkok's liveliest scenes.

And since the tourism in Thailand is coming back to life bit by bit, all establishments in this particular neighborhood are joining forces to make the whole Bangkok livelihood alive. This means, when the border is finally fully unlocked, Samyan-Chula would be completely geared up with all amazing attractions and venues to welcome you guys back to the city!
