Time Out Bangkok and Mekhong Thailand kicked off the new chapter of the unique dining series Mekhong Elite Table at the one-Michelin-starred Thai restaurant Saneh Jaan on Witthayu Road on Jul 4.
It was a raining evening, but it didn’t stop Bangkok diners from stepping into the luxurious space for the art of Thai spirit pairing. Starting the evening was Mekhong Mantra, a sizzling ginger-hinted Mekhong cocktail, that’s paired with appetizers: deep-fried dumpling filled with chicken, crispy rice topped with curried fish, and watermelon with dried salmon. The second pair saw the marriage between Thai Margarita, a sweet-and-sour Mekhong cocktail topped with dried chili, and the house’s best-selling pomelo salad with crispy shrimp and minced pork; followed by the third course that were scarlet-colored Ruby of Siam, a Mekhong cocktail accented with dragon fruit, passion fruit, orange bitter, jasmine syrup and egg white, and shrimp balls with flavorful shrimp paste dip.
After diners enjoyed their Tanaosri chicken in spicy and sour soup, the main course of the evening was served: streamed sea bass with choo-chee curry served with jasmine rice paired with one of Mekhong’s most famous signature tipples. Mekhong Thai Sabai, a Mekhong-based concoction with lime juice, syrup, sweet basil and splash of soda. The dinner ended on a high with Saneh Jaan’s famous desserts, Somchoon, which is seasonal fruits in citrus syrup, and Saneh Jaan, the fruit shaped mungbean.
