Whether you're a Singaporean who's looking to celebrate your country's National Day today (Aug 9) with comforts that would remind you of home or you're one of those who're on the lookout to get a taste of rare Peranakan (a type of cuisine invented by Straits Chinese who lived in merchant cities in the Malayu Peninsula) recipes, your chance is here.

A Straits Chinese cuisine restaurant in Bang Na, Sambalacha Cafe Bangkok by Uncle Pang, is joining Singaporeans around the world in celebrating their independence day by churning out three Peranakan recipes that even non-Singaporean would crave.

Said to be some of the disappearing recipes, the National Day menu features Chu Bee Png, a savory glutinous rice dish served in banana leaf with fried shallots, fried peanuts, and homemade sambal (B50 each), and Nyonya chicken and potato curry that's pretty much equivalent to Thai massaman curry minus Thai herbs and cashew nuts (B100). There's also Nyonya Sago Kelapa, a ruby-colored mild-sweetened sago snack served with grated coconut (B50 for 4 pieces). This special menu will be available for two days only, on Aug 9 and 10.  Call 06 3929 5624 or visit the restaurant's Facebook Page to place your order.
