Parks, gyms, museums, theaters and spa will be closed for 2 weeks in response to the growing coronavirus outbreak

This is still not a lockdown scheme, the government reckons.

On April 25, the Facebook page of PR Thai Government announced that a total of 31 venues are now ordered to shut down so that the increasing number of coronavirus-infected cases in Bangkok could be controlled. The order is in effect for at least two weeks, starting from April 26 to May 9, 2021.

Bangkok Governor Police General Aswin Kwanmuang also revealed in the announcement the list of 31 venues that will be affected by the latest enforcement, which can be seen below.

  1. Theaters
  2. Water parks and amusement parks
  3. Zoos
  4. Skating or rollerblading rinks or other similar recreation
  5. Snooker parlors and billiard parlors
  6. Bowling alleys and game arcades
  7. Gaming and Internet shops
  8. Public swimming pools
  9. Fitness centers
  10. Exhibition halls, trade exhibition centers, and convention centers
  11. Museums
  12. Public libraries
  13. Daycare centers (except those in hospitals)
  14. Elderly care centers (except admission for overnight stay)
  15. Boxing stadiums and boxing schools
  16. Martial arts schools (gyms)
  17. Tattoo and piercing parlors
  18. Ballroom dance halls or academies
  19. Horse racing tracks
  20. Amulet trading markets and centers
  21. Weight-control services, cosmetic clinics, aesthetic clinics, and medical clinics that offer aesthetic treatments
  22. Health and wellness establishments (health spas, massage shops, and beauty treatment shops), traditional Thai massage and foot massage parlors
  23. All types of race tracks
  24. Public event grounds
  25. Meeting and event venues
  26. Department stores, shopping centers, and community malls:
    - They may open between 11.00-21.00;
    - Promotional events are prohibited;
    - The distance between each chair in restaurants should be two meters;
    - Protective screens must be used if the distance is less than two meters.
  27. Hair salons and barber shops:
    - Customers have to wait outside while waiting for the service.
  28. Sports venues:
    - No sporting activities and competitions at all are allowed.
  29. Public parks, platforms for public activities, and sports grounds
  30. Convenience stores:
    - They may open from 05.00 to 22.00.
  31. Parties, camping, film shooting, television programs, religious activities, and gatherings:
    - The number of participants must not exceed 20 persons.

In the meantime, restaurants and food shops outside the shopping malls can still serve dining-in customers until 21:00 and operate a takeaway service until 23:00. The venues need to practice strict social-distancing schemes, such as spacing each chair two meters apart and using protective screens in the case where the two-meter space cannot be done.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) also imposes a legal action on those who do not wear a face mask properly in public places and air-conditioned rooms.
