MRTA has announced that it will start test-running the new MRT extension line from Hua Lamphong to Lak Song. This MRT extension has caused a lot of excitement as it includes some of the city’s most beautiful stations (the Chinese-themed Wat Mangkorn station in the heart of Chinatown, and the throne hall-inspired Sanamchai station [pictured] near the Grand Palace), as well as a part that runs underneath the Chao Phraya River—a first in the country.

Unconfirmed reports say the MRTA is planning to offer free rides during the test run. The new train line is expected to officially open for public use in September.
