Bangkok’s public transportation system is not bad (it’s actually pretty great), but the real fuss points to how we can only buy a ticket from the machine with coins (or from the human booth as well), which requires lining up to exchange our bills at the counter. The good news: a much better option is on the horizon.

Recently, the Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT)—don't get confused with BTS—announced on its official Facebook page that it will soon launch a contactless system. “Don’t want to buy a ticket? Don’t want to exchange for coins? An alternative for MRT passengers is coming very soon,” the post, which can be seen below, reads.

This alternative allows holders of credit cards, such as Visa and Mastercard, to simply tap their plastic money on the readers at the gate instead of purchasing a token from the station.

More details on the new payment system have yet to be revealed but, at this point, we’re already psyched! Stay tuned!
