Summer in Bangkok means intense heat, with soaring temperatures blanketing the city. Just last week, some provinces recorded highs of 41C, prompting the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to issue a danger-level heat index warning. However, relief may be on the horizon – this week, summer storms are expected to sweep through the Big Mango, delivering much-needed heavy rain and a refreshing break from the scorching weather.

According to forecasts from the Meteorological Department, thunderstorms are expected to hit the capital, with heavy rain drenching around 40 percent of the city. This change in weather is due to a moderate high-pressure system from China, which is also covering Vietnam and the South China Sea. As a result, southeasterly and southwesterly winds are sweeping across the North and upper northeast of Thailand, while the heat continues to linger over the upper regions.

So, while you can expect another scorching day with temperatures ranging from 35–37C in the afternoon, rain is on the way to provide some relief. With thunderstorms in the forecast, it’s wise to avoid areas prone to storms, pack an umbrella and stay hydrated as the weather shifts throughout the day.
