In the realm of performance art, Marina Abramovic is queen. For five decades, the Serbian artist has explored the relationship between humans, body limits, and feminism through body-based multidisciplinary performances. (Many of you may remember her from that MoMA show where she sat still for some 700 hours across more than a thousand people.) She is the founder of the Marina Abramovic Institute (MAI) and has inspired thousands of performing artists around the world.
This is the second time Abramovic, who has always been one of the Bangkok Art Biennale’s headliners, will be making an appearance in the city for the art event. Her first visit was in 2018, where she gave a talk on art inspiration and perspective. For the Biennale’s third run, the celebrated artist will once again hold a lecture, this time focusing on “The History Of Long Durational Works Of Art And MAI”. The talk will include a discussion of continuance performance—a style referred to as the “Abramovic Method”—and how it works and interacts with other mediums and audiences.
The lecture will take place at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center on 25 Jan at 6pm. Tickets are priced at B800 to B3,000 (B300 for students). Click here to book.
