Thai fans of uber-popular Japanese discount store chain Don Quijote can now go crazy over irresistibly cheap Japanese products (a lot of which they don’t really need) on their own turf. The store chain will open its first Thailand outpost on Feb 22 in Thonglor, close to the city’s Japanese quarter.
Bangkok’s Don Quijote isn’t a duplication of the Tokyo stores; here it takes on a grand shopping center format and is called Donki Mall Thonglor, while the discount store is set inside. Donki Mall Thonglor is also home to a range of Japanese restaurants, cafes and drugstores. The main attraction, however, is the Don Don Donki outlet, which offers the same merchandise as the original Don Quijote stores—from facial masks and skincare products, to toys and cosplay kits, to fruits and food—in affordable prices. Adding to the appeal, Don Don Donki is open 24 hours, including a food zone where you can grab Japanese food and drinks and a supermarket you can shop for instant noodles and a wide range of Japanese alcoholic beverages. (The green tea parlor is said to be one of Japan’s best.)
Opening soon is a Hello Kitty-themed playland Hello Kitty Go Around, which will include a game arcade, souvenir shop, restaurants and cool photo spots, and D-Sports Stadium indoor sports establishment featuring batting machine, bouldering, badminton, tennis, game zone, kid zone, and more. Both are located on the fifth floor of the mall. Check out photos below.
Donki Mall Thonglor, Soi Thonglor 10/Soi Ekkamai 5, 0 2301 0451. Open daily.
