Bangkok’s latest eating and drinking hotspot at The Empire, ‘EA’, has been all the rage these past few weeks with the top six floors offering a handpicked list of restaurants, cafes and bars with stunning panoramic views across the city.
Among the throng of restaurant delights, one that stands out is 'K', the first overseas project from the Michelin-star chef by Vicky Cheng and owner of VEA and Wing in Hong Kong.
Combining Chinese cuisine with French techniques, you'll be dazzled by the colourful garnishes and techniques that elevate the robust Cantonese and Chiu Chow fare at the heart of his dishes.
K offers a variety of Cantonese menu options for your liking. If you're into spicy food, whole squid with green Sichuan pepper might catch your eye. K's signature crab with Chinese black olives and garlic might be a bit messy, but the succulent meat inside is well worth the effort. Finish your meal with mango pomelo sago with coconut ice cream, chef Vicky’s interpretation of mango sticky rice.
The tea bar is also worth a shout out. Here, tea culture is blended into a wide range of inspired drinks, from brewed Chinese leaves to crafted tea-infused cocktails and mocktails. Don't let the menu intimidate you – the tea experts will help you choose the right one for your cup.
And when it comes to decor, each detail from the Chinese tableware to lightings is inspired by Kilin – a legendary Chinese beast – creating a sense of movement through modernised sweeping motifs with gold and burgundy accents. Complemented by large windows affording panoramic views of Bangkok, this is the place to come for food, drink and views day and night.
Expect prices in the range of B2000-2500 for a full meal. A wine pairing menu is also available. For a one-off drink at their tea bar: hot and cold brew Chinese teas, sparkling varieties, kombucha or crafted tea-infused drinks.
