Last year, when medical personnel found themselves in an adverse situation posed by the emergence of coronavirus, Food for Fighters (FFF), a UNDP-supported non-profit troop, jumped in to support these frontliners in a form of gourmet food. Thanks to donors contributing over B1.4 million and a strong network of 100 restaurants in 20 provinces, the first event was a success.
FFF's founder Panchana "Tete" Vanasathein was inspired to establish this charity due to the fact that these medical professionals mostly go through the same boring meals every day in their work. "We felt that healthcare workers and community members shouldn’t have to eat chicken basil every day," Tete says. Therefore, giving support in a form of gourmet food could be "an extra benefit" that could cheer them up during this hard time.
Last week (May 29), amidst the third wave, Food for Fighters returned to host the second event, this time with the help of Bangkok's seven top chefs who came together to cook for all the medical service teams at a number of hospitals.
- Chef Noom Thaninthorn Chantrawan from Chim by Siam Wisdom
- Chef Andy Yang from Table 38
- Chef Ton Thitid Tassanakajohn from Nusara, Le Du, and Baan Restaurant
- Chef Nick Nattapol Pavapaiboon from Wang Hinghoi
- Chef David Thompson from Aksorn
- Chef Som Jutamas Theantae from Karmakamet Conveyance
- Khun Srirat Sripinyo from Sri Trat
Over 700 sets of meals were made at Chim by Siam Wisdom and then delivered to multiple communities and centers, Khlong Toey Slums, field hospitals, and jails where the pandemic is gravely affecting.
