In 2019, popular independent movie cinema House Samyan collaborated with AIS Play to bring back all-time cinematic favorites to the big screen in 4K high-definition. Past selections have included Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), Paris, Texas (1984), Dog Day Afternoon (1975) and Manhattan (1979).
This month, the cinema’s House Classics program is showing a restored version of the infamous neo-noir thriller Basic Instinct—also known as the film that propelled Sharon Stone to super stardom. Stone stars as Catherine Tramell, a mysterious and hypersexual writer who becomes a prime suspect in the sadistic murder of a rockstar. Michael Douglas stars opposite Stone as Nick Curran, the detective in charge of the investigation who gets himself tangled up in Tramell’s seductive charms.
Despite mixed reception from critics, Basic Instinct earned over $300 million dollars worldwide, becoming one of 1992’s highest-grossing movies and a cult classic. The film also established Stone as a sex symbol and effectively gave rise to the femme fatale genre.
Basic Instinct will be screened at House Samyan starting November 18. Check out showtimes on the official website.
