It has been a roller-coaster ride following the authorities' announcements regarding their decision whether to allow certain businesses to open—or not—during these past several days. On April 7, we reported that Bangkok was still categorized in the orange zone, meaning that venues across the city could still run their businesses under strict control.
Only one day afterward (April 8), the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) confirmed on the now-deleted post that entertainment venues, including pubs, bars, karaoke lounges, and bathhouses, would be closed to prevent the further spread for at least two weeks. To our skepticism, we decided not to freak everyone out and report the news due to the unclear statement and the worry that the government would change their mind again for the 84,439th time.
The confirmation has been finalized today (April 9). CCSA's spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin declared during the daily press conference that the CCSA board has agreed to impose temporary closure on entertainment venues in 41 provinces, including Bangkok, for at least 14 days starting from April 10.
In the meantime, other types of establishments like restaurants, gyms, and educational institutions can open to business as usual with strict preventive measures being operated at all times.
Let's take a deep breath and try to be patient and responsible for better, happier days.
