The results are in. Eight of Bangkok fine-dining ventures make 2019’s cut of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.
The award ceremony of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, the region’s affiliate to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants sponsored by San Pellegrino and Acqua Pana — the high-end sparkling and still water – was held tonight (26 March) at Wynn Palace hotel in Macao, China. The votes are cast by more than 300 chefs and so-called food experts. Gaggan, which had been named the best restaurant in Asia for four consecutive years, is now declared the second best in the continent, while the winner goes to Odette in Singapore.
Sühring, the progressive German restaurant run by the Sühring brothers, remains No.4 in the list. Gaa, the eatery run by Gaggan’s former sous-chef Garima Arora who recently won Asia’s Best Female Chef, is the biggest new entry, claiming No.16. Currently steered by chef Pim Techamuanvivit, Nahm sees a dramatic fall and is now placed at No. 22
Innovative Thai restaurant Le Du by chef Thitid Tassanakajohn, declines 6 spots to No.20, while Bo.lan, the traditional Thai specialist by chef Duangporn Bo Songvisava and Dylan Jones, bounces back into the list at No.19. Paste, which also serves traditional fine-dining Thai staples, sees an impressive climb at No.28.
Also the new entry is Sorn, one of the most-hyped Thai restaurants elevating fiery Southern cuisine, makes it to this year’s list at No. 48.
