The conflict between food delivery platforms and restauranteurs over commissions seems to be an endless war. Now, that Ministry of Commerce has stepped in, the big four—Grab, Gojek, LINE MAN, and Foodpanda—have agreed to cut their commission rate to not over 25% for at least one month, starting from June 1. The Ministry of Commerce has estimated that food delivery operators will altogether lose around B250-300 million in revenue, but this move will boost the country's entire economy at approximately B2 billion.
Each food delivery app also releases more supportive add-ons, and here are the details.
Grab Food
Bangkok's most popular food delivery platform will offer two options for its merchants joining the program.
- Commission rebate to merchants that are paying over 25% commission rate for each venue's 100 orders; or
- Merchants can also opt for the discount code, which will be offered to diners. The code is limited to a total of 10,000 redemptions per day.
- Merchants joining the campaign must be small- and medium-sized restaurants with a maximum of 5 branches.
- The commission reduction will run from June 1-30, 2021.
- Grab Food also scraps commissions for pick-up orders at participating restaurants.
Gojek
The Indonesian-born ride-hailing app has launched an initiative to support its merchants called GoStronger. The details are:
- Lower the commissions to under 25% on all orders during this one-month period
- Alternatively, merchants can turn their commission rate reduction into discounts, 15-20%, that will be offered to diners.
- Merchants joining the campaign must be small- and medium-sized restaurants with a maximum of 5 branches.
- The commission rate reduction will run from June 1-30, 2021.
- Gojek also has this Gojek Partner Support Fund, which offers a maximum of B6,000 to drivers and micro merchant partners who are either tested positive with COVID-19 or are placed under quarantine.
LINE MAN Wongnai
The Thai delivery app has jumped on the bandwagon to also launch support packages for its partners. Here's the detail.
- Cut the commissions to under 25%.
- This reduction will apply only to the first B10,000 amount of income a partnered restaurant makes during the one-month period in June.
- Merchants joining the campaign must be small- and medium-sized restaurants with a maximum of 2 branches.
- The commission reduction will run from June 1-30, 2021.
Foodpanda
Through its SupportSME program, Food Panda joins the Ministry of Commerce and the other three players with the following initiatives.
- Reduce the commissions to 25% for all merchants on its platform.
- New merchants will enjoy a 0% commission in their month on the app, with conditions.
- Food Panda also introduces the #SupportSME feature, which will add up your tip amount donated to restaurants. For every B5 donate, Food Panda will give another B5 so a restaurant will get a total of B10 tip.
- The commission rate reduction will run from June 1-30, 2021.
All partner promotions and packages will be active between Jun 1 and 30 only.
