Bangkok Marriott Marquis drops its most exciting F&B openings before the year’s end. After much talk and speculation, the final F&B project of the hotel has finally been revealed to be the Bangkok venture of Akira Back, one of the most celebrated modern Asian-inspired chains by the eponymous celebrity chef, and the new drinking hole ABar, which are set to open this Friday (22 December).
Perched on the 37th floor of Bangkok Marriott Marquis, the Bangkok outpost of Akira Back is the blend of high-end contemporary elements festooned with the glow of black and gold and a touch of Asian flair (we’re talking Shinto ropes in various length forming themselves as Neo-classic style arches). There’s also a separate sushi and omakase bar, as well as private rooms overlooking Bangkok skyscrapers. Like other Akira Back dotting the globe, the kitchen will churn out the celebrity chef’s clam-to-fame dishes that fuse Korean, Japanese and American fare.
But that’s not only what the luxury hotel has in store for us. The opposite wing from Akira Back is probably one the swankiest hotel bars in Bangkok. Paying tribute to Victorian London fusing gritty retro-Manhattan aesthetics that look like it pops out from Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them movie. The bar will specialize in dark spirit so expect crafted cocktails with top-notch whisky, cognac and rum. Climb up the stair and enjoy the breathtaking Sukhumvit view from the ABar Rooftop, the al-fresco bar which prides itself in gin-based tipples.
