Last Sunday, May 22, Bangkok held gubernatorial elections for the first time in nine years. Poll returns quickly revealed that most of the voters from the city’s 50 districts chose former transport minister Chadchart Sittipunt.
According to Prachachat, 60.49 percent of over four million voters cast their ballot this year, and that Chadchart received more than 1.3 million votes, leading over other candidates by a vast margin.
Democrat Party’s Suchatvee Suwansawat came second on the poll, receiving about 254,000 votes, while Move Forward Party’s Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn followed closely with approximately 253,000 votes. Former governor Aswin Kwanmuang came in fifth with roughly 200,000 votes.
Bangkok’s 17th governor has a website, Chadchart.com, which details his plans for leading the Thai capital. His platform focuses on nine aspects, including safety, health, creativity, environment and transportation.
