Charoenkrung commuters might have spotted a brick-facade building popping up near Soi Charoenkrung 38, and probably been wondering what is it. It’s a new project of Central Group, Thailand’s largest retail conglomerate, which commissioned Belgian architect Vincent van Duysen to give their first store erected in 1950 a whole new life.
Central Group now reintroduces it as Central: The Original Store.
The five-story building now houses the second branch of Central-owned concept store-cafe-bar Siwilai, a gallery, and, most importantly, a restaurant by celebrated chef David Thompson, named Krua Aksorn, which crowns the top floor.
Central: The Original is now during its soft-opening. It opens Wed-Sun. Call 02 267 0412 for more information or making reservations.
