The Standard, Hua Hin, the stylish Thai resort where chic beach vibes meet mid-century style, will shine a light on one of Asia’s most enchanting celebrations this November, as it invites guests to discover the elegance and spiritual energy of Loy Krathong, Thailand’s “Festival of Lights”.
Staged on the full moon of the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar (which usually falls in November), Loy Krathong is a wonderfully atmospheric festival, as families come together under the soft moonlight to release small decorative rafts (known as “krathongs”) into rivers, lakes and waterways across the Kingdom. These handcrafted vessels, which are often woven from banana leaves and tropical flowers, are used to carry lit candles and incense sticks, creating an exquisite sight as hundreds of twinkling lights float away on the rippling water.
This act is a way of paying tribute to the Goddess of Water, while also being symbolic of casting away the troubles of the past year and ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity.
To mark this mesmerizing occasion, The Standard, Hua Hin is inviting guests to take part in a series of traditional activities on Tuesday 8th November 2022. At 17.30, all ages will be invited to the resort’s Pool Lawn to enjoy a krathong-making demonstration, which is both artistic and highly sustainable, using only organic and biodegradable products.
Guests will be able to craft their own krathong, and as the sun sets over Hua Hin and the full moon rises above Thailand’s Gulf coast, a floating ceremony will be held at the pool. This captivating celebration will coincide with the Happy Hour at the Pool Bar, allowing revelers to sit back, soak up the serene ambiance and sip cool drinks.
Nestled directly by the beach on Thailand’s glittering Gulf coast, just a short drive from Bangkok, The Standard, Hua Hin offers 199 rooms, suites and villas, the mid-century design Lido pool and bar, Praça, the restored beachside heritage house and Thai izakaya restaurant, The Juice Café and seafront Surf Club. The resort has also elevated the social scene in Hua Hin with a series of cultural “Happenings”, from wellness weekends and artistic escapes to pool parties, live concerts and more.
The Standard hotels are present in the most desirable of destinations, from Miami Beach to the Maldives, London to New York, Hua Hin to Bangkok.
